Species information

Geodorum densiflorum   (Lam.) Schltr.

This native groundcover is commonly known as pink nodding orchid.

Geodorum densiflorum is described as a "monocot" in the Orchidaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

A small to medium sized plant with 3-4 broad lanceolate pleated leaves 20-40cm long X 7-10cm wide; obliquely erect or drooping. Flowering stem erect, 20-40cm high with 4-10 10-15mm long bell-shaped or tubular, pale to bright pink flowers. Apical 1/4 of flowering stem distinctly curled downwards when flowering, but becoming erect when seeding. Flowering period December-February. Widespread and fairly common. Vernon Conservation Park; Tandora; Poona National Park (Maaroom); Teddington Weir. (Alan Logan). In Plants of the World Online known as Eulophia cernua. Listed as a special least concern species in Queensland (https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/plants/protected-plants/harvesting). 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.

Reported at 38 Fraser Coast localities: Burrum Heads, Burrum River, Urangan, Burgowan, Prawle, Craignish, Howard, Kanigan, Walligan, Beelbi Creek, Yengarie, Bauple, Tinana, Poona, River Heads, Magnolia, Tinnanbar, Boompa, Talegalla Weir, Teddington, Susan River, Yerra, St Mary, Toogoom, Walkers Point, Doongul, Mount Urah, Dundowran Beach, Bidwill, Tuan Forest, K'gari, Gungaloon, Booral, Boonooroo Plains, Owanyilla, Teebar, Antigua, Duckinwilla.
