Species information

Pteridium esculentum   (G.Forst.) Cockayne

This native groundcover is commonly known as common bracken.

Pteridium esculentum is described as a "fern" in the Dennstaedtiaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.

Reported at 34 Fraser Coast localities: Dundowran Beach, Craignish, Dundowran, Toogoom, Takura, Wondunna, Duckinwilla, Burrum Heads, Howard, Doongul, Glenwood, Beelbi Creek, Poona, Tuan Forest, Mount Urah, Walkers Point, Bidwill, Teddington, Yerra, Gigoomgan, Bauple, Tuan, Great Sandy Strait, Talegalla Weir, Bauple Forest, Tinnanbar, Magnolia, Tandora, Boompa, K'gari, Owanyilla, Boonooroo Plains, St Mary, Beaver Rock.
