Originated in tropical Africa. A category 3 restricted invasive plant under the Biosecurity Act 2014. Reports of significant negative impacts on native bees (http://www.bobthebeeman.com.au/african-tulip-tree-ebook.asp). Census records from north Qld and Moreton district. Also reported at K'gari (Fraser Island).
It has not been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is not
listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.
Reported at 5 Fraser Coast localities: Dundowran Beach, Point Vernon, Kawungan, Burrum Heads, Maryborough.
