Only two subspecies recorded in the Fraser Coast region (Queensland Flora Census 2021). See Cyperus haspan subsp. haspan and Cyperus haspan subsp. juncoides. Regarded as a wetland species in Queensland WetlandInfo.
It has not been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census but is
listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.
Reported at 16 Fraser Coast localities: Burrum Heads, Duckinwilla, Sunshine Acres, K'gari, Gundiah, Owanyilla, Walliebum, Talegalla Weir, Bauple Forest, Tuan Forest, Doongul, Walligan, Boonooroo Plains, St Mary, Maryborough West, Yengarie.
