A large, leafless saprophytic plant with a reddish flowering stem 40-90cm high with 5-20 2-3cm diameter heavily blotched pink or reddish flowers.
Flowers all year; main period April-August. Widespread but not common. Vernon C/P; Lenthal's Dam; Tandora; Maaroom (Poona N/P); K'gari (Fraser Island) (Alan Logan). Listed as a special least concern species in Queensland (https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/plants/protected-plants/harvesting).

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is
listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.
Reported at 10 Fraser Coast localities: Walligan, Susan River, Dunmora, Antigua, Tinnanbar, Talegalla Weir, Teddington, Tinana, Boonooroo Plains, Booral.
