Species information

Gomphocarpus physocarpus   E.Mey. WEED

This introduced groundcover is commonly known as balloon cottonbush.

Gomphocarpus physocarpus is described as a "dicot" in the Apocynaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is not classified as it is not native to Queensland. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.

Reported at 38 Fraser Coast localities: Sunshine Acres, Booral, Burrum River, Burrum Heads, Wondunna, Point Vernon, Prawle, Duckinwilla, Yengarie, Craignish, Doongul, Urraween, Kanigan, River Heads, Dundowran Beach, Mount Urah, Walkers Point, Bidwill, Teddington, Yerra, Gigoomgan, Bauple, Tinana, Paterson, Poona, Talegalla Weir, Boompa, Takura, Kawungan, Granville, Malarga, St Mary, Maryborough, Tuan Forest, Walligan, Beaver Rock, Tiaro, Magnolia.
