Species information

Hibiscus diversifolius subsp. diversifolius   Jacq.

This native shrub is commonly known as swamp hibiscus.

Hibiscus diversifolius subsp. diversifolius is described as a "dicot" in the Malvaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Proposed name Sabdariffa diversifolia (Barrett RL et al. (2025) Reinstatement of Sabdariffa and new combinations to support a monophyletic concept of Hibiscus (Malvaceae: Hibisceae). Australian Systematic Botany 38, SB24013. doi:10.1071/SB24013 ).  

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.

Reported at 12 Fraser Coast localities: Dundowran Beach, Prawle, Craignish, Urraween, Granville, Malarga, Tinnanbar, Pialba, Toogoom, K'gari, Maryborough, Beaver Rock.
