Species information

Baccharis halimifolia   L. WEED

This introduced shrub is commonly known as groundsel bush.

Baccharis halimifolia is described as a "dicot" in the Asteraceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is not classified as it is not native to Queensland. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

A category 3 restricted invasive plant under the Biosecurity Act 2014. 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.

Reported at 50 Fraser Coast localities: River Heads, Craignish, Urangan, Sunshine Acres, Dundowran Beach, Point Vernon, Booral, Burrum River, Burrum Heads, Wondunna, Takura, Urraween, Toogoom, Torquay, Dundowran, Yengarie, Bunya Creek, Pialba, Walligan, Beelbi Creek, Mount Urah, Tuan Forest, Granville, Bidwill, Teddington, Yerra, Bauple, Glenorchy, Tinana, Island Plantation, Tuan, Paterson, Great Sandy Strait, Maryborough, Poona, Talegalla Weir, Bauple Forest, Tinnanbar, K'gari, Howard, Burrum Town, Aldershot, Boonooroo Plains, Gundiah, Owanyilla, Boompa, St Mary, Tinana South, Beaver Rock, Tiaro.
